Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had been employed for a considerable time as housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the youngest baby of six. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music that her father played and loved at his home. When she was young she was already able to establish the impression of her identity and the things she wanted to be. Church choirs encouraged her to develop this talent. At the age of 16 the singer began appearing often in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. At the age of fifteen, she began her professional career at nightclubs. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, Nancy was enrolled for a year at Ohio's Central State College now Central State University prior to leaving and becoming professional as a singer. She made her first recording in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band, which she sang with between 1956 and 1958. Nancy made her debut album through Dot Records during the time she was with the group. Cannonball told her she should make the move into New York and go to The Big Town to further her singing career. In just a few months, she was offered a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 by releasing the single "Girls" after she signed an agreement with Capitol records. Guess who I saw today? Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. After Adderley's influences she shifted her focus from R&B into jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped propel her into the spotlight and her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. Following that year it led to her being invited to the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
