Winona-Ryder
Winona Laura Horowitz who is professionally known as Winona Ryder is a native of Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her in honor of the town she grew up in. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. She has a younger brother Uria and half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. In the year Ryder was just seven, her family moved in Mendocino County California. In the area, there was no electricity. Ryder became an avid book reader because there was no TV. In 1983 when she was twelve, Ryder was accepted into the American Conservatory Theatre to take classes in acting. In 1986 she landed her first big-screen role in the movie Lucas when she was just 15 years old. Ryder experienced bullying at the high school. Her hope was that her career in acting would improve this. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass. The actress pursued her dreams. Her breakthrough came with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder continued to perform successful roles in many movies. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her part for her performance in The Age of Innocence (1993).
